The 2017 Wage Survey

'Wage" by Brooke Novak on Flickr
The annual wage survey should have arrived in your e-mail box on Tuesday. Your participation in this anonymous survey of wages (and the Guild's reporting out of results) helps you negotiate on more equal footing the next time you look for a job.

This year, the survey is e-mail only. It was sent out to over 6,000 members, active and withdrawn.

If you did not see the survey in your email, please check your spam folder. SurveyMonkey was used to send the surveys, and there have been some reports of it going to a spam folder.

If you are a member, and you believe you did not receive the survey and would like to fill it out, please email membership@tag839.org from a personal email account, and let us know your full legal name. We'll get a survey out to you.

We have seen that a small percentage of members have blocked SurveyMonkey entirely by opting out of all communication from that service. If you think you might be in this situation, you can opt back in through the SurveyMonkey website:

California has laws in place to protect workers that want to share wage information:

California: Labor Code, Section 232

“No employer may do any of the following:

  1. Require, as a condition of employment, that an employee refrain from disclosing the amount of his or her wages.
  2. Require an employee to sign a waiver or other document that purports to deny the employee the right to disclose the amount of his or her wages.
  3. Discharge, formally discipline, or otherwise discriminate against an employee who discloses the amount of his or her wages.”

Sharing this information is one of the best things you can do to improve the leverage you have for your next salary negotiation. Help level the playing field by filling out the survey!
